Musing: Small spaces

The hardest thing to design is a small space. Big spaces are so much easier.

I look at ever square inch as usable space. Designing in NYC this is a very studied skill.

I call it realestate to go up. So many spaces have huge gaps at top, especially in kitchens. always have cabinets go up to the ceiling. Even if they are 14 feet tall. That space that is not reachable without a ladder is still extremely useful.

Closets if you see a space in your vision, its a wasted space.

Small spaces will look larger if you keep to all one tonal value, not just white. Could be all mint and medium grey or all dark grey and black. does not always need to be light colors, thats a misnomer.

If you already have the space done but do not want to replace or renovate. fill the top space with baskets or pretty boxes on top so they reach the ceiling. Store things at the very top in cabinets or decortive boxes that you hardly use, like Christmas decorations, bday party supplies, or memory books. Ladder out get it down couple times a year, def not everyday use.
